TSE Nursery's bare root plantain trees will be shipped to you wrapped in cloth and a plastic bag, and will be about 1-2 feet tall. Unlike most other banana varieties, cooking banana trees can easily survive temperatures down to about 25 degrees Fahrenheit, as long as they have not begun flowering or fruiting. Maximum height is 10-15 feet. Plant them in a spot where they will receive plenty of sunshine, warmth, and water. Fertilizing your plantain tree regularly will greatly increase your harvest of fruit while also decreasing the amount of time the plant will need to produce that fruit. Expect a harvest in 12-18 months! In the meantime, your plantain tree will regularly grow shoots from the bottom of the trunk called "pups". These can be broken off and replanted, giving you a practically unlimited supply of new plantain trees!
